Women of Worth is a monthly intimate dinner series that brings together a group of successful and diverse women to form meaningful connections, and at the same time, see how we can generate ideas or solutions towards a particular goal or cause, or simply achieve greater impact as a collective group through collaboration.
omen of Worth is a monthly intimate dinner series that brings together a group of successful and diverse women to form meaningful connections, and at the same time, see how we can generate ideas or solutions towards a particular goal or cause, or simply achieve greater impact through collaboration.
PURPOSE
To build a strong community of movers and shakers who think big and execute beyond what is expected, and most importantly, care about the greater good. Become more connected, empowered and supported by like-minded individuals who challenge conventions, redefine roles, and set trends.
HOW IT WORKS
Every month has a different host and venue. The host chooses the venue and secures the F&B arrangements. Each attendee is very carefully selected based on her personality, values, motivations, and accomplishments. The guest list is a secret, and the attendees do not know who is going until the dinner itself. Only the date, time and venue are revealed.

DISCUSSION POINTS
Are you a HiPPO?
HiPPOs (highest paid person's opinion) can be deadly for businesses because they base their decisions on ill-understood metrics at best, or on pure guesswork. HiPPOs are also responsible for misreading consumer trends with no intelligent tools to derive meaning from the full spectrum of customer interactions and evaluate the how, when, where and why behind actions.
2 Pizzas
Meetings or teams shouldn't be larger than what two pizzas can feed because of communication and effectiveness. There is a higher tendency that leads to groupthink.
Daring to disagree
The fate of an organisation ultimately depends on their leader. If the leader creates a culture of openness, trust and understanding, it helps employees bring up issues or problems which may be overlooked. Healthy conflict can be good thing.

DISCUSSION POINTS
The importance of learning CPR
We learnt how to apply chest compressions or hands-on CPR to restart a heart and save a life. You can make a difference during the critical 12 to 15 mins before an ambulance reaches an incident site, and significantly increase a victim's chance of survival. This first response could be vital in saving someone's life.
When was the last time you learnt something new
How to live in the present, how to connect with people better, how to say no, how to be more resourceful, how to use new media, how to play the flute, how to harvest aloe vera.

DISCUSSION POINTS
Leading with purpose:
How do you communicate your goal to your team, and do you think you are effective? As the company grows, communication becomes more challenging, due to time constraints and founder access. Turnover is a good tell-tale sign if the team is not ‘feeling’ the goals of the business. Some tips in making the goals ‘felt' and ‘personal’ for the team: 1. Help the staff understand and internalise the mission statements by creating the right environment and right approach (experiential learning) 2. Have ambassadors internally to be both communicators and ‘mission auditors’. 3. Walk the talk
Managing risks & opportunities:
What makes a good business opportunity: You are addressing a problem or gap in the market. Managing risks: The constant need to stay relevant to your customers but at the same time be able to predict future trends to stay ahead of the curve. Cracking the code for online and offline retail seems to be the biggest challenge for many companies. While AI seems to be at the forefront for business innovation in industries ranging from healthcare and transportation, computers are blind, not only in the visual sense but in every sensory sense that we know of. What computers do have is the power to process information and turn it into a meaningful result far faster and with more precision that any human. But what separates them from humans is that we are capable of making arbitrary decisions.
The good fight:
Current challenges? 1. Being a woman in business 2. Women don’t help each other enough—men do that better. Passions aside from work? 1. Empowering ordinary people to make a positive change 2. Education: That is the lever for everything—important to make the system better and centre around making people ready for the future. Current system is too linear 3. Thrilled about talent and making connections. 4. Empowering people to save lives i.e. teaching people how to deal with cardiac arrest: it is surprising frightening that people are scared of repercussions if they help someone who is having a heart attack. Common thinking is ‘What if i get caught in action not doing it right on video or FB’ 5. Deep and meaningful interactions between people: How do we close the divide? We need people to inspire on the ground and not always look to the gov to solve problems. We need to organise the village and the people will take care of itself. 6. Helping the needy aged: There are a lot of old people who need help but there are not enough volunteers. Need to reinstill filial piety. Example, Trifecta invites members & families to do deliveries of food and essentials to old folks together. 150 homes get food drops once a month 7. Give people the confidence to blaze their own trail. We need to allow for more flexibility in order for people to be more inventive and entrepreneurial. E.g. the Lemonade kid in Tiong Bahru was shut down by the NEA 8. Holistic healing: Create a greater awareness of how to live a healthy lifestyle 9. Bringing our access goods to rural places in less developed countries 10. Little tribes of nations come together to do small things that amount to a big difference—small acts go a long way. If a woman is education and the whole family is educated. 11. Women celebrating our helpers. Influencing people to support our cause? First by being able to share and build a network amongst Women of Worth, so that we can reach out to the right people, or be ‘match made’ and share what we are doing. What support do you lack? People willing to volunteer their time.

DISCUSSION POINTS
Women under-represented on boards of SGX-Listed companies
Many boards essentially have multiple CEO voices rather than voices that represent different points of view and perspectives on leadership, management and the changing landscape. Adding women who have had different careers and experiences will increase the diversity of the voices that are heard in the boardroom.
Juggling Priorities
For women, starting a family is always on their minds. How can mothers manage life both at home and on the job? Inevitably, there will be a shift in focus, and it is important to know what takes priority over the other at different stages.

DISCUSSION POINTS
Co-founder conflicts
Having a co-founder can be challenging at times if both of you having different personalities, management styles and approach to running a business. Who has more say in terms of making the final decision? Are you able to communicate effectively? Can you be transparent and honest to talk about issues no matter how trivial they seem? Apart from facts and figures, the emotional side of things like feelings should not be neglected.
Finding a suitable space
After the success of Keepers in Orchard Road, moving forward, is there a permanent space to house local designers so that they can showcase their products and also build a community?

DISCUSSION POINTS
Going solo
Being a single founder of a start-up can be tough and lonely. You have to carry all the weight alone, and every responsibility or failure is yours to bear.
Different leadership styles
You don't have to loud, aggressive, and forceful when you lead a company. There are many other types of leadership styles that do not compromise power or influence. A good book to read is Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends & Influence People.
Organisational challenge
Working in big organisations can be difficult to navigate: there is more red tape, it's harder to push your initiatives, lack of autonomy, and the challenge is to be seen and heard as an individual. Even if you have a brilliant idea, it takes a while to get buy-in and even if your immediate boss is supportive, the top management can always shoot it down.
Managing the transition
Moving from a big organisation to another requires adaptability and acclimation. There is always a learning curve at a start in terms of company culture, communication with employees and management, vision, and KPIs.
Transparent communication
As a company grows, how does the leader ensure that the entire organisation is aligned with the vision and mission? There needs to be constant communication and transparency from the top, across the middle layer and down to the individual front-line sales force.
